Has God Spoken to You?

“Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. And now in these final days, he has spoken to us through His Son.” – Hebrews 1-2a

We all long to hear from God in some shape or form. We want Him to speak to us in our dreams, to answer our prayers audibly, to appear to us like He did to Moses and the prophets, or to give us some sign in the sky, day or night. We want clear cut guidance, sure and positive direction.

Let me ask you, though: has God spoken to you?

Over the past few weeks, I have been struggling in life. I have been seeking God for His wisdom and strength and guidance, and there are times when I’ve felt like God isn’t listening. I’ve felt like God isn’t answering me, or I misinterpret the deafening silence from the heavens as a resounding “no” to my requests.

I couldn’t have been more wrong.

My wife and I do daily devotions (a practice I strongly recommend to everyone who is married, as well as those with kids, no matter the age), and for the entire month of August, the theme has been peace. Peace in God, peace in the trials and temptations of this life, peace through the storms and struggles of financial hardship. Sure, we’ve been using a pre-written text that simply recycles the information each year and it’s going to be the same information this time next year, but I almost didn’t buy that devotional book a while back. I can honestly say, I’m glad God convinced me to buy it.

We’ve needed His peace more than anything in the past few weeks, and God has spoken to us through His Word as a result of this devotional.

I’m sure by now, you’ve picked up on the fact that I don’t believe in coincidences. I believe in God-ordained appointments and events.

As a great example of this, I’ve been seeking His guidance and blessing as I make efforts to expand the reach of this website and this ministry. And do you know what almost every verse of the day for two straight weeks has been? It’s been about prayer.

“Continuously pray, seek Me wholeheartedly, don’t give up. Keep asking, keep seeking, keep knocking.”

He’s been emphasizing perseverance in prayer.

Sometimes, when we feel like God isn’t speaking to us, it’s because we’re not actually listening. We think we’re listening, but in reality we have our ears tuned to our own desires and dreams and not God’s voice.

We need to open our ears, as Jesus says. We need to listen to God, not our own inner voices and thoughts.

Pray that God will open your eyes and your ears to hear His voice and see Him move in your life. I know from personal experience that He will answer. Man, will He answer.

“‘And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.'” – Luke 11:9-10

This is what the Sovereign LORD says.
